Former Israel Chief Pathologist Prof. Yehuda Hiss testified on Thursday 12 Elul in the manslaughter trial of Sgt. Elor Azariya. Hiss told the court that despite earlier reports to the contrary, in his professional opinion the bullets fired by the young defendant did not kill the already wounded terrorist. Hiss stated that despite the prosecution opining that Sgt. Azariya killed the wounded terrorist, the pathological findings in the case do not confirm this and in fact, his gunfire did not kill the terrorist directly.
Testimony from a senior Magen David Adom official also work to Azariya’s favor and clearly following the statements of a pathologist of the caliber of Prof. Hiss, the defense is feeling a bit more confident as the case moves forward. Hiss is an internationally acclaimed expert, gaining notoriety during the period of terror attacks in which buses were blown up on the streets of Israel by Arab suicide bombers R”L.
Earlier this week Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced that even if we learn that the soldier erred, we should still stand by him.
