The Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition, representing the greater Flatbush Jewish community, strongly urges members of the City Council to support Res. No. 1058-A “condemning all efforts to delegitimize the State of Israel and the global movement to boycott, divest from, and sanction the people of Israel.”
At its heart, BDS does not aim to affect positive political change or improve the situation for Palestinians. BDS’ objective is to delegitimize Israel and undermine its right to exist. BDS does not seek Israeli- Palestinian peace. Instead, many of its proponents seek to destroy Israel.
As Governor Andrew Cuomo stated “New York stands in solidarity with Israel today and always. This state will not stand for the politics of discrimination in any form, and we will continue to demonstrate our unwavering support for the people of Israel in the fight for freedom, liberty and democracy…”
BDS offers nothing positive or constructive to the conversation. It instead provides opponents of Israel with a platform for hatred and a forum to spew anti-Semitism. As children and grandchildren of holocaust survivors, the Flatbush Jewish community rejects the counterproductive and mean-spirited BDS effort and call it out for the prejudicial campaign that it is.
We strongly encourage City Council members to stand with Israel, support Res. No. 1058-A and repudiate hatred and bigotry.
The Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition, FJCC unites and represents the greater Flatbush Jewish community, the largest in New York, on communal, civic and political concerns.
