TV franchises from Israel – known as formats when they’re adapted internationally – are springing up on TV networks around the world. Already called the “Start-Up Nation” for its high-tech initiatives, Israel is also proving its start-up creativity in the global television market with global hits like “Homeland,” “In Treatment,” and teen hit “The Greenhouse.”
TV formats are part of the growing content industry in Israel, which currently brings in about $380 million per year.
On September 19th and 20th, TLVFormats, the first International TV Formats conference, will take place in Tel Aviv.
Officials from major channels and networks worldwide will join in a panel at which leading Israeli networks will unveil their newest series and formats in advance of MIPCOM 2016, the main industry event, to be held in October at Cannes.
TLVFormats event will include a “Pitch Your Format” competition, letting industry newcomers present innovative ideas for formats and TV series to an international panel of jurors. Other networking opportunities will share Israeli talent with industry contacts around the world.
International executives expected to participate in TLVFormats include Adam Berkowitz of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), one of America’s leading entertainment agencies; Gary Carter of KLOK Creative Content Agency (Finland) and Minority VR (Montreal, Canada). Other networks and channels will include TV1 (France), Endemol (Holland), Prosiben (Germany), Mediaset (Italy), ZDF (Germany) and many more.

Now it’s REALLY important for the chareidi yeshiva world to know this piece of information. At least we are being a light unto the nations’ TV screens. Sad, and even more disappointing is that YWN thinks this sort of information belongs on a chareidi website. If your guiding rabbinical authorities think it’s OK, well, then i accept their decision. But, somehow, I have this feeling the supervising rabbis were not consulted.
