“Amazing! I am absolutely amazed at the Kriah Nechonah Do-It- Yourself Kriah Tutorial! I have never before seen a program that is so simple to use and that teaches anyone – from child to adult to senior citizen – how to properly master kriah. There are no words to describe the service Rabbi Uhr has performed by empowering any individual struggling with kriah to teach it to him/herself in a step-by- step fashion!” These were the words of a veteran mechanech and parent who has seen countless teens struggle through years of school, suffering shame, humiliation and frustration as a result of their inability to grasp kriah.
What is the Kriah Nechonah Do-It- Yourself Kriah Tutorial? What prompted Rabbi A.Y. Uhr to create such a revolutionary program? It all started some twenty years ago. Rabbi A. Y. Uhr began working with children on a daily basis, testing them and helping them to master kriah. After many years and hundreds of students, Rabbi Uhr came to the conclusion that he could create a methodical, clear-cut way to teach kriah that would reach many more students in less time. The time had come to find a simple, do-it- yourself method of learning kriah so that children and teens (and even adults!) could teach themselves the step-by- step rules to reading properly without having to resort to the stigma and expense of tutors.
The Kriah Nechonah program was enthusiastically embraced and has since been adopted by many schools throughout the country, not only for remedial teaching of Hebrew, but to test each student to ensure that the reading rules are being mastered with 100% accuracy.
Rabbi Uhr watched with great excitement as children and teens who had previously seen themselves as failures and dummies began to shine with the glow of achievement and confidence – they had learned how to read and were ready to master so much more!
Several years ago, Rabbi Uhr began receiving requests from leading roshei yeshivah and rabbanim to offer his program to the wider public who wanted to perfect their reading accuracy—this included adults, not just children. To achieve that goal, the original program, which was created for parents and tutors to use with children, has been transformed into a user-friendly, Do-It- Yourself Kriah Tutorial.
Empower your child, friend, relative… or even yourself by investing in the gift of hope, the gift of learning how to read fluently and accurately, the gift of confidence and success. The Kriah Nechonah Do-It- Yourself Kriah Tutorial is a one-time investment that can transform lives, one person at a time!

Kriah is really very simple. All you need is a knife or a razor. Even a ball point pen will work. You simply penetrate the garment beneath the lapel and open a slit about 1 1/2 inches. You then insert the two fingers of each hand into the slit and pull in opposite directions until you have a tear about 4 inches long.
Anybody can do it!
