President Barack Obama has nominated a Washington, D.C., attorney for the federal bench. If confirmed, he would be the first Muslim American to serve as a federal judge.
Obama nominated Abid Riaz Qureshi of Maryland for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Qureshi’s bio at Latham & Watkins LLP says he specializes in cases involving fraud and securities violations. He also has managed large, complex investigations on behalf of international companies. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1997 and Cornell University in 1993.
An advocacy group called Muslim Advocates is applauding the nomination, saying that diversity helps ensure the fair administration of the law, and it is vital for Muslims to be included. The group said he had worked with the organization on a pro bono basis in two important civil rights cases.
The White House has regularly cited Obama’s efforts to bring diversity to the federal judiciary, noting he has appointed 120 minority federal judges and 138 female federal judges.
However, Senate confirmation is uncertain. Congress is in an abbreviated session, and the Senate is scheduled to meet only until the first week in October.

This mamzer will stop at nothing to destroy this country.
This article is WRONG.
Federal Judge Abdul Karim Kallon has served in Birminham, Alabama since 2010 (also appointed by President Obama) and is currently a nominee for elevation to the US Court of Appeals.
Whether we like the Obama nomination or not, Theyeshivaworld.com has an obligation to fact check articles before posting inaccuracies such as the claim made that thenew nominee is the be the FIRST Muslim Federal Judge in America.
Ctlawyer,
That headline is also in the huff and puffing ton post and in CNN
Either you are wrong or those articles are wrong
To Moshele (aka No. 1)
Look in the mirror if you are truly interested in an accurate reflection of ignorance and mamzerus. Qureshi is one of the most experienced and highly regarded securities lawyers in the country, has handled dozens of high profile transactions and litigation matters for Latham and is eminently qualified for the D.C. Circuit. His religious affiliation is as relevant as Judge Curiel’s Mexican heritage which you probably also found disqualifying.
Gadolhadorahm, i do not need to read your talking points from DNC and Obama. If you feel comfortable to have a Muslim judge in the Federal court, i suggest you to move to Europe, but spare the rest of us from this future sharia encroachment.
