There was drama at the vehicular entrance to Ben-Gurion International Airport on Tuesday night 26 Menachem Av as a vehicle blew through the vehicle inspection station instead of stopping as required.
The driver of the vehicle failed to adhere to the instructions of the guard who signaled him to stop for inspection. The vehicle continued driving, failing to adhere to instructions of the security agent to halt for inspection. The vehicle sped off in the direction of Terminal 3. Protocol was set into place, with roadblocks set into place to prevent the vehicle from reaching the passenger terminal.
A pursuit followed and the vehicle was of course apprehended near a gate. Two occupants tried to flee and climb a fence but security agents prevented their escape. A total of four people, all occupants of the vehicle, were taken into custody. The necessary protocol was followed to rule out a possible terror attack and/or vehicular bomb. Then the four were turned over to authorities.
A spokesman for Ben-Gurion Airport released the following message on Wednesday morning. “Regarding the vehicle blowing the checkpoint at the airport, four persons who were arrested were released this morning after being question. They explained they got lost and panicked and simply fled the area towards the gate. The probe into the incident continues”.
