The Nachal Chareidi Battalion soldier who shot a 38-year-old PA (Palestinian Authority) resident dead near the community of Ofra on Erev Shabbos was questioned ‘under caution’ and may face voluntary manslaughter charges.
Questioning one ‘under warning’ often signals the case is likely to lead to a criminal indictment.
The PA resident was running towards the IDF position and the soldier carried out the regulation protocol, ordering him to halt, then firing in the air and then firing towards his lower extremities. The man was shot and killed as a result. It was later determined that he was unarmed and now, the soldier may face criminal charges for his actions.
The family of the slain PA resident have already announced plans to sue the IDF, which they hold responsible for the death.
Some fear this will become an “Elor 2”, referring to the ongoing manslaughter trial of Sgt. Elor Azariya, who shot and killed a wounded terrorist in Hebron on Purim.
