Maale Adumim: Police Stop Of Sedan For 5 With A Chareidi Family Of 10 Inside

mishtaraPolice in Maale Adumim stopped a vehicle for inspection that appears somewhat overcrowded. The vehicle, which legally holds five, was carrying ten persons; a chareidi family of eight children. Needless to say no one was belted in or in a car seat.

The car stop occurred on Sunday morning 17 Menachem Av. Police report the oldest child was 15. The occupants of the vehicle were ordered out of the car and the driver was summoned for a hearing for transporting an unlawful number of passengers in the vehicle.

Police urge people to adhere to the law and not endanger family members by placing too many people in a vehicle and/or traveling without each passenger using a proper restraint device for the safety of all travelers.

  1. Why is it pointed out in this article–and the headline–that the family was Charedi? If the family was from the Dati Leumi community, would you point it out? Would you point it out if the family were secular? How about of French extraction? Of United States origin? Originally from Ethiopia or Russia? Please think twice before automatically tacking the “Charedi” ID onto every news story. (And pleeeze don’t tell me you pointed out the family is Charedi because Charedim are the only ones who stuff twice the allowed number of people into their cars. Not true.)

  2. Whether Chareidi or Frei Yidden, and 1 and 2 are correct that it doesn’t matter, the police should charge the parents with child abuse for such mindless negligence and putting their lives at risk.

  3. While there is no value in mentioning a “Chareidi family,” the article has merit since it is a reminder for people without seichel that they are risking the lives of their family.
