Due to his difficult illness, Ramat HaSharon Rav HaGaon HaRav Yaakov Edelstein Shlita has transferred to responsibilities of his position to HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Peretz Shlita and HaGaon HaRav Micha Levy Shlita, Kikar Shabbos News reports.
During a recent meeting of the Chief Rabbinate Council the decision was made due to the rav’s failing health. It was explained Rav Edelstein himself has to assign his duties to others since he is not presently capable of performing them.
As such, the council appointed Petach Tikvah Chief Rabbi Levy to oversee kashrus in Ramat HaSharon and Ra’anana Chief Rabbi HaGaon HaRav Peretz to oversee marriage registration. The council stressed the appointments are temporary as they continue being mispallel for Rav Edelstein to have a total refuah shleima, thereby permitting him to return to his full duties.

who is wise? one who sees the future. Rabbi Edelstein certainly is taking wise steps to assign others to take over his responsibilities at this time of his need.
It is so great to see such a gaon and tzaddik find successors in a reasonable time. This might be contrasted with the bizayone haTorah that occurs with many gedolei yisroel, who deteriorate while still “in office”. These gedolim — truly gifted leaders in their years of gevura — are mere puppets in the hands of handlers, often no longer capable of walking around by themselves or thinking clearly. It would be wise for others to consider officially retiring before they lose their faculties, instead of waiting until they are no longer capable of understanding what is happening around them.
The council reassigned his duties, he didn’t give them up. The headline is misleading.
