A project taking place at Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital run by Prof. Nir Giladi, is training adults to navigate obstacles with more success, resulting in fewer falls among adults 65 and older.
Professor Giladi explains one out of three adults over 65 will fall on the average of once annually and these falls are costly and at times, even result in death.
The new hospital projected headed by Giladi permits adults to ‘train’ walking and dealing with obstacles along the path. Adults over 65 who are involved in the program admit the simulator has given them a feeling of added security and stability. A study shows that working with the simulator has cut falls by as much as 40%, showing the program is a success.
