Israel Police has imported 20 dogs from the Czech Republic which will be integrated into operational and interrogative units. The dogs will assist investigators are they are trained to smell drugs, money, explosives, weapons and more.
A delegation of three senior canine handlers, veterinary personnel and animal activists from the Operations Division have been conducting tests to determine the abilities of the specially trained dogs; Czech shepherds and Labradors. This includes performance tests and mission performance as well as determining the limits of the dogs’ sniffing abilities to permit them to select the 20 most suited dogs for the department’s needs.
The 20 one-year-old dogs selected to join Israel Police arrived on Thursday morning 14 Menachem Av, and in the coming days, they will begin a six-month training period to permit them to join the 220 police dogs already in the field carrying out various tasks in a number of units.
