Vaad Reports There Are Only 4 Mehadrin Kosher Separate Beaches In Israel

Many avreichim and their families will be heading to mehadrin beaches during bein hazmanim in Israel but the Vaad for the Purity of the Camp (וועד לטוהר המחנה) is warning that in all of Israel, there are only four mehadrin approved separate beaches.

The vaad explains that while many beaches advertise as ‘separate beach” they fail to comply with the standards set forth by the committee. The vaad warns that some have gone to these so-called separate beaches only to learn the venue is far from acceptable and a far cry from meeting basic modesty standards to put it mildly. Some of the problems include proximity to a mixed beach in addition to a lack of mechitzos between the beaches and the paths leading to the separate facility.

Separate beaches and their issues according to the vaad:

· Ashkelon: No mechitzah in the water.

· Bat Yam: In some areas, mechitzah is too low and in some areas, almost like a mixed area.

· Rishon L’Tzion: The path to the beach is problematic as it also passes too close to the mixed areas.

· Tel Aviv (Sheraton): While popular, not acceptable to the vaad, quoting the Shevet HaLevi ZT”L who prohibited it entirely, adding if even a doubt, one mustn’t place oneself in such a ‘safek’.

The vaad announced the approved beaches are (1) Ashdod, (2) Netanya, (3) Haifa and (4) Akko, and none other. Regarding these four, the vaad suggests going during the early morning hours while the access paths and walkways are still in compliance with acceptable standards.

  1. The lack of mechitzas doesn’t seem to bother anyone in Miami beach but here in Israel you give some folks a finger and they throw it back in your face and demand a hand.

  2. #1: Are you saying that, well, if some people in Miami disobey halacha — assuming this is true, and they are (ostensibly) frum — then why can’t the frum people in E.Y. also disobey halacha? Are you sure you are posting to your intended website? And YWN, does this sort of impudent anti-Torah comment belong on a frum website?

So you’re implying that people who do aveyros in Miami are the standard we should use for acceptability in Israel?!
The halachos of pritzos are obvious. If you (and others in Miami) would prefer to rationalize and ignore those halachos , well it’s America and you can do what you want. But please don’t give attitude to those who would like to keep these basic halachos .

  4. I was at the Ashdod beach with my daughter a few weeks ago. All the lifeguards were male, & the girls weren’t obeying the calls to move to safer waters, so one lifeguard actually waded in & stood there watching them. So how is this an “approved” beach? There are female lifeguards out there.

  5. I won’t mind if you don’t publish this comment. Ten hours have passed and my 52 word comment still hasn’t been moderated? This has got to be entered into the Guinness Book of World Records. Good Shabbos to all!
