This year, TheChesedFund.com revolutionized Jewish fundraising. Created as a resource for Jews all over the world to raise money for important causes without being robbed by heavy fees, the site has quickly gained popularity and taken the crowdfunding world by storm.
However some may doubt the pure intentions behind this venture, under the old adage that ‘some things are too good to be true.’ YWN sat down with Chesed Fund founder Avi Kehat, to ask hard questions.
“The Chesed Fund site will always be free,” he said, definitively. “We created this site so there could be free fundraising for Jewish causes.”
He continued, “We have received so much emotional support and encouragement from users and we are continuing our mission at full speed.”
The Chesed Fund has continued to grow in popularity, as people all over the world have experienced tremendous success in their fundraising ventures.
It certainly seems that this resource will continue to be absolutely free. The real question seems to be who will choose to benefit from it, and who will continue to take their business to the sites growing rich on their 5%. Turns out, not everything is too good to be true.

This is no douby=t a great site, but to the people that think sites like gofundme.com or charidy.com are just a bunch of money grubbing animals don’t quite understand the amount of work going into a project. I have no issue with charidy.com taking 5% because they do a ton of marketing to make sure organizations reach their goals.
How does one know if the soliciting on this site is legit? Who supervises?
Kol hakavod to this site – run by reliable people.
The people who run the site may be very righteous …but what due diligence is done to ascertain who they accept?
It’s a wonderful site….but is the thought behind the site backed up by significant research on each situation …or is that part left for the public to do?
Just asking.
Why does the link YWN provides to their website have a referral in it?
[i.e. if you hover the mouse over the link you’ll see the link is to https://thechesedfund.com/?utm_source=ywnarticle&utm_medium=081516 instead of just https://thechesedfund.com/ , this allows theschesedfund to track how many people visited their website from YWN’s referral. This is normally done so that the website can reward the referrer]
Is there a disclosure YWN would like to make
Moderators Note: It’s just incredible how people concoct theories in their minds…. No, there are no disclosures to make. The Chesed Fund people would probably like to track their clicks from anywhere the article was published. This is the link they provided. But nah, this response is too lame….your looking for a full blown conspiracy…. We would like to know why your username is Gavriel….and your email address starts with Miriam. That seems way more interesting.
Good Stuff Avi!
One very important question:
To what extent, if any, does this site go to verify the veracity of those listing on the site?
It’s very difficult if not impossible for the ordinary person to differentiate between a real tzedaka and a fake.
Millions of dollars over the years have gone to fraudsters. so this question is of utmost importance.

I’m sorry if my comment upset you. I was just requesting clarification and had no intention of insulting you. I thought I had made my point in a respectful way. I left it as an open question for you, in a forum where you have an opportunity to respond.
You have to admit that after reading a completely one-sided article, published on a news website when the article has no connection to news; and which links to another website four times, each time in letters bigger than the last, every link hiding the referral code – you have to admit that its not unreasonable to wonder whether YWN wants people to click. I’m not sure its reasonable to suggest I’m “looking for a full blown conspiracy”.
Although once again, if my request for clarification hurt you then I apologise.
Having apologised, I’d like to say I’m frankly disturbed by the way you respond to criticism. Is it your standard reflex to pull up that users account details to find a way to personally attack them. Did you read through all my other posts to try to find some ‘dirt’? Don’t you think you could have stated your case without resorting to trying to discredit and hurt me.
I’m not entirely sure what it is you’re accusing me of, but even if your dark implications were justified I don’t think it sounds like something which should be publically published on a website whose name starts with yeshiva.
For the record I don’t have my own email address, so when I signed up to your website I used my wife’s email. The musag of yungerleit who don’t have an email address shouldn’t be surprising to a website whose name starts with yeshiva. Anyway I hope I’ve satisfied your curiosity.
Honestly, responding in such an aggressive way doesn’t do much to raise the image of your website, or the image of frum Yidden in the eyes of any other readers.
Once again I’m sorry if I upset you
Gavriel
