Deputy Minister (Bayit Yehudi) Eli Ben-Dahan has announced he is planning to act against the HaPeles Newspaper and its hardline hashkafa against so-called ‘chardakim’, chareidim serving in the IDF. HaPeles is the newspaper affiliated with the Yerushalmi faction of Degel Hatorah, following HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach Shlita.
Speaking with Yisrael Hayom, the deputy defense minister explained he is taking actions to combat the assaults against chareidi soldiers from the frum community. He has instructed Defense Ministry officials to be increasingly vigilant following up on complaints of harassment and assault against frum soldiers. Officials are also planning to direct their sights to the HaPeles newspaper in its ongoing uncompromising position against serving in the IDF. He promises in the near future, those responsible for the ongoing harassment and attacks will be held accountable.
Pashkavilim were distributed in the Ramot area of the capital against heads of HaPeles. At present, it remains unclear if this represents an internal struggle among HaPeles officials or perhaps involving an outside party.

About time???!!
I’m curious if the esteemed deputy-minister is as adamant against secular newspapers that inexorably incite against the IDF, and against serving. Of course, those are mainstream secular newspapers that are part of the “establishment.” Not likely he would even dream of starting up with such entities. Instead, De-Hahan chooses to pick on easier targets, like HaPeles.
HaPeles claims they have nothing to fear and are doing everything legally. Truthfully, and Ben-Dahan is quite aware of, there’s no need to take Yeshiva boys into the army because they have more than enough soldiers. If they need more, they can take from Shenkin Tel Aviv where there are plenty of deserters, over 50%. But the Shenkin boys are already secular so there’s no need to defile them and shmad them.
We must thank Hashem for Hapeles who b”H save lots of boys from the shmad organization.
