Israel Police is completing preparations for this upcoming Shabbos, which enters directly into Tisha B’Av. The security around the capital will be handled by a special operation that begins with Shabbos and continues through Tisha B’Av.
Police, border police and volunteer units will be deployed around the city to maintain law and order and prevent disturbances. Special attention will be focused on the Old City and holy sites.
The troops stationed along the capital’s border will also be fortified with additional manpower to prevent PA illegals from entering.
On motzei Shabbos the Women in Green organization will hold its annual Walk Around the Old City Walls from Intendance Park to the Dung Gate. This will result in changes in traffic and parking in some area including: Agron, King David, King Solomon, Chativat Tzanchanim, Kikar Tzahal, Shlomtzion HaMalka, Yanai, Koresh, Sultan Suleiman, Derech Yericho, HaOpel, Maale HaShalom Streets and Jaffe Gate.
A sizable number of police will also be assigned to routes to and from the Kosel and tens of thousands are expected to be visiting the Kosel on motzei Shabbos and Sunday.
Police urge motorists to stay away from the Old City and to rely on public transportation and the available park and ride stations.
