Rabbonim shlita call on bnei Torah to get rid of their cellular telephones, including kosher phones, explaining the phone simply interferes with limud and is disruptive in and outside of the beis medrash.
The kol korei appearing in chareidi newspapers also calls on the tzibur of bnei Torah to distance itself from people who continue to carry a cellular telephone, including a kosher pone, for its influence is a negative one.

The Rabbonim that apparently signed appear to be mostly Chasidishe Rebbes. I don’t see any Litvishe names. This is literally insane, taking Kanois to a new level.
Is this real? Did YWN verify the authenticity of the signatures?
This is not my religion. I sure hope these signatures have been forged.
It DOES NOT say anywhere in the Kol Korei to distance yourself from someone carrying a Kosher Phone!!
YWN please edit the article. Thanks.
Please reread the “Kol Koreh”.It does not say that bnei torah should not have cell phones. It does say that “Talmidai Hayishivas” meaning Yeshiva students should not have cell phones even Kosher ones as they are a distraction from their learning. This is not a new idea most Yeshivas either prohibit or discourage their students from having cell phones.
When Rabbonim in EY issue Kol Koreis they mean it to be for the tzibur in EY. The dynamics are different from one location to the next. So putting aside the authenticity question of the Kol Korei, it would in any case not be targeting the Tzibur out of EY as the Rabbonim in EY leave it to the ones who understand the situation best in the country that they are in namely the Rabbonim in America or whereever else relevant.
Rabbonim generally refrain issuing Kol Koreis for areas outside of their own that have their own Rabbonim who can decide these things in their respective places.
This is an important point to consider whenever any similar such Kol Korei’s appear on this site or elsewhere. Unfortunately this is frequently overlooked by the posters and those reading them leading to unfortunate and – without basis – denigration of Rabbonim.
Guys please stop commenting before you read the post. EVERY SINGLE COMMENT has missed the boat!!!!!!!
Yeshiva World News this is not a dramatic kol koreh and you are being divisive by misrepresenting the kol koreh. It only says that Yeshiva students shouldn’t have phones even kosher phones and it goes without saying “Tamei Phones of which one should stay away fromn them and those that own them”. Please edit and correct the article. While your at it “Phone” is not spelled “Pone”
I totally understand why a phone would be distracting and prohibited in the Bais medrish. But why ban ownership of it all together? Just as an employee is not supposed to use a phone for personal use during work hours Bnei Torah can just shut off phones during Seder.
@gofish – This is not your religion. . . True, it it HaShem’s. As one man put it, “if G-d were you, he would do things differently, but if you were G-d the world would look exactly the same as it does.”
YWN- what a shame you are worse than CNN!!! #1 they are not talking to Bnei Torah but to bucherim in yeshiva (which is not such a crazy idea) as you see from the fact that they mention the parents #2 not a word about staying away from someone who has a phone #3 YES Rabonim DO think closer to Hashems way of thinking (kbyuchil) you can’t really change that….
Moderators Response: Ok.
The only mention of staying away is from someone that has a Treif phone which is so true…..
why would it not make more sense to shut off your phone during learning?? many of us shut off phones during meetings, tefillah, etc. what am i missing???
Ridiculous! Needed for emergencies, car service, etc!
Many yeshivas have cubbies for phones during learning.
What do they feel about Yeshivaworld.com?
PS I certainly understand banning them from classrooms or
bais medrash and of course Always with a filter.
And not to let the get in the way of kvias ittim latorah or tfillah.
The question should rather be; who was the hothead Konai who initiated this Kol Kora and then ran to all Rabbonim..
of
Something like this nature (whether one agrees or not)should only be signed to each individual Kehillah on its own not to the public.
Its only a matter of time, when Kol Korahs (even important ones) will not be taken serious at all.
DAAS TORAH –
There is a known story with Satmar Rav, that one Rav wished to ban radios (with legit reasons) but Satmar Rav totally rejected having any part, even though he agreed its not appropriate, as people will not heed to the proclamation and other more important ones will lose its effect.
As Chazal state As Chazal state b’makom sh’ein hatzibur yecholin La’amod..
What happens if they need to Cal hatzala r”l? My phone was once broken and a car crashed into a girl across the street. A passing bus driver called emergency services
This kol Korei is not extreme, it talks to yeshiva bachurim. This article is horribly inaccurate. Strange to have difficulty reporting a completely straightforward “story” so wrong.
