New Jersey Banning Coffee While Driving? Not So Fast

cofDrivers in New Jersey who drink coffee behind the wheel don’t need to worry about getting a ticket any time soon.

The sponsor of a bill targeting distracted driving says his measure doesn’t specifically cite coffee, despite recent news reports focusing on the beverage.

Democratic Assemblyman John Wisniewski says he cannot imagine that a police officer would pull anyone over for drinking coffee and that the legislation is aimed at discouraging distracted driving.

Current law already prohibits texting or talking without a hands-free device. The new legislation is broader and would bar distracted driving generally. Wisniewski says he sponsored the legislation to avoid the need for new legislation each time technology changes.

He introduced the measure seven months ago and has yet to bring it up for a vote in a committee he leads.

  1. This makes no sense whatsoever UNLESS you’re a politician. The bill would bar distracted driving, a law which presumably is on the books already somehow.

In this bill, that would ban distracted driving, WHY would drinking something not come under the law? What if I’m drinking something in my travel mug and I CH’V get pulled over, do i have to show the officer a what I was drinking in order to avoid a summons?

Only a liberwacky liberal would come up with something sooooooooooo cockamamie!!
