Israel Police is about to begin a pilot project in which policemen reporting for duty on Shabbos will use the Gett Taxi app, the newspaper Kalkalist reports. Police officials explain they wish to free up patrol cars to serve the public and not have to rely on them to shuttle personnel to and from stations on Shabbos.
Police explain weekends are busy and freeing up vehicles will permit the department to better serve citizens rather than police vehicles being used to shuttle personnel.
Gett in Israel reports it has 7,500 taxis working with the system nationwide and is capable of meeting the department’s needs in all areas. The department is waiting for final permits permitting it to sign with Gett without a public tender since none of the other companies working with online apps have nationwide coverage and therefore, they cannot satisfy the department’s needs.

All Israeli drivers sign up under the “Gett Mehadrin” category which is supposed to be shomer shabbos drivers only.
This system will present quite a contradiction to Gett’s policies.
