During the upcoming summer recess, construction will take place in the Knesset shul, which desperately needs to be enlarged as there are Baruch Hashem more people coming to daven and learn in the shul on a regular basis.
Work began on Thursday, 29 Tammuz, which is located on the first floor of the Knesset. The expansion officials report will be “significant”, and part of the Sprinzak Hall named after the first Knesset Speaker will be incorporated into the new shul. The decision to expand the shul was made by Speaker Yuli Edelstein, who is counted among the regular mispallalim in the shul.
The renovation includes expanding the ezras noshim which will be able to be enlarged if needed by closing an accordion door/division, one that has acoustical properties so when events are taking place next door, it will not disturb tefilos in the shul. As is the case with the men’s shul, the ezras noshim that exists today is too small.
The gabbai announced on Wednesday that following shachris on Thursday morning, mincha will be held in the library and a portion of the cafeteria on the second floor will be cordoned off temporarily to serve minyanim until the expansion process in the shul is completed.
