Obama Commutes Sentences Of 214 Federal Prisoners – 67 Had Life Sentences; Surpassing The Past 9 Presidents COMBINED

obPresident Barack Obama is cutting short the sentences of 214 federal inmates, including 67 serving life sentences.

The White House says it’s the largest batch of commutations on a single day in more than a century. Almost all the prisoners were serving time for nonviolent drug offenses.

The commutations bring to 562 the total number of sentences Obama has shortened. The White House says that’s more than the past nine presidents combined. Almost 200 of those who have benefited were serving life sentences.

White House counsel Neil Eggleston says Obama will continue granting clemency to more inmates during the final months of his presidency. He says those receiving commutations were imprisoned under antiquated, overly harsh sentencing laws.

Most of those receiving commutations Wednesday will be released December 1.

  1. if our jewish friends who loves obama so much he would help out other jews but apparently liberal jews r self hating jews

  2. Commenter 1: Given the vitriol that has been directed at Pres. Obama by many Orthodox Jews, what incentive would he have to intervene on behalf of Mr. Rubashkin? I think Rubashkin’s sentence is preposterously excessive, but, as far as I know, his supporters have no connections with the President.

Commenter 2: Can you name names, or do you just figure that Obama’s friends are all convicted drug criminals?

Commenter 3: Liberal Jews (of which I am one) are not self-hating. That is a tired old myth used by some uninformed frum Jews to explain to themselves a world they do not understand.

  3. Ah, the Obamahaters are out in force. These are persons who were convicted of crimes for which the penalties have been dramatically lessened, but not retroactively. This is entirely fair. And I am sure that were there any Jews who were in such a situation they would get their sentences reduced, too.

The Rubashkin case is not relevant.

  4. Rubashkin is a criminal. He was convicted by a duly constituted court of the United States of America. There may be a heimish view that he didn’t really do anything wrong, but he did, he broke the law. That having been said, I agree with #4 huju that his sentence is preposterously excessive. His is certainly a case that N Obama Esq should consider commuting. I consider his case far more worthy than many many others, including one who betrayed our great country for personal financial gain.
