Israel’s Ambassador the United Nations Danny Danon and eleven of his counterparts from around the world toured Israel’s borders and received security briefings. The delegation flew in helicopters along the country’s ‘narrow waistline’ and visited Kibbutz Nachal Oz and Sderot to hear about life under the threat of rocket fire and tunnel attacks in southern Israel. The group then flew north to Ziff Hospital in Tzfat to observe firsthand the humanitarian and medical aid offered by Israel to Syrian refugees. Later in the day the ambassadors were briefed at the Lebanese border on the threats Israel faces along its northern frontier.
“The ambassadors had the opportunity to observe up close the many challenges facing Israel and will return home with a better understanding of our need to stand strong in the face of the threats to our security,” said Ambassador Danon. “Ambassadors to the UN are at the forefront of their counties’ foreign services. This trip strengthens our ties with these important countries, and fosters relationships with future international leaders,” the Ambassador continued.
The delegation of ambassadors visiting Israel this week is organized by the American Jewish Committee’s Project Interchange in coordination with the Israeli Mission to the UN. They are receiving briefings on the region’s security challenges and learning about Israeli culture, entrepreneurship and lifestyles.
