Deri Convenes An Urgent Meeting To Address Ongoing Discrimination Against Sephardi Girls


1Shas leader Aryeh Deri summoned mayors of chareidi cities and municipalities to take part in an urgent meeting to address ongoing discrimination against Sephardi girls nationwide.

Kikar Shabbos News adds that when asked to comment on the reported meeting, Deri on Tuesday, 27 Tammuz, confirmed it is so, stating he plans to bring an end to the discrimination “once and for all”. He also confirmed summoning the mayors and deputy mayors of chareidi communities from around the country to discuss the problem with them directly.

  1. If girls and families cannot adhere to the rules of the schools, there’s no way they can be accepted, whether Sephardic or Ashkenazic. It’s not discrimination at all.

  2. Arye, you’re wrong. There is discrimination. I know many really excellent families who were given rejection letters without even being granted an interview -simply by the sound of their last name. When they fought for an interview, they were quickly accepted and apologized to for the “glitch” that somehow happened.
