Authorities say police have shot and wounded a burglary suspect in Queens.
According to NYPD Chief Robert K. Boyce, at approximately 1:30 PM, officers from the 104 Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a burglary-in-progress at 55-38 66 Street, in a first floor apartment of a 2-family residence. The female caller was apparently monitoring the burglary through a remote camera feed at the time.
When uniformed officers arrived at the scene, the female caller – who is a resident the first floor apartment – met them outside of the building. After gaining entry to the apartment, one uniformed officer encountered a male suspect in a rear room. A struggle ensued in which one round was discharged from the officer’s service weapon, striking the male in the groin area. The suspect fled the building. He was chased on foot by officers who apprehended him approximately one block away, in a rear yard.
The suspect, a 38-year old, male, Hispanic, with an extensive record of prior burglaries, was transported to Booth Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition with single gunshot to the groin area.
Contemporaneous to this incident, a female was discovered approximately 3/4’s of a block away, lying in a private driveway, near her residence, suffering from a laceration to her head. She was transported to Elmhurst Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
Following a brief surgical procedure, doctors removed an object from under her scalp. Preliminary inspection of this object indicates that it appears to be short piece of wire cable.
The female victim, who is 36-years old, is being interviewed by detectives in an effort to determine how she may have sustained her injury.
All details are preliminary and an active investigation is ongoing.
