VIDEO: Justice Minister Shaked: Bennett Is Getting Core Subjects Into Yeshivos, Quietly

ben[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

Speaking with Meet the Press host Rina Matzliach, Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked discussed a number of item.

Below, a superficial review of some of the topics addressed:

Channel2:

Where there cabinet meetings in which the issue of Hamas tunnels were discussed. Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid say no while PM Netanyahu says there were.

Shaked:

I do not talk about what is discussed at cabinet meetings. I was not in the previous cabinet and suggest that we wait for the comptroller’s report to learn the truth. Based on how I know the man, Bennett is telling the truth.

Channel2:

What about the delay in launching the Public Broadcasting Authority? Is this anti-democratic, an effort to silence the opposition?

Shaked:

I think the 18-month delay signals that they do not want it.

Channel2:

What about Amona and the need to remove it by the end of December 2016? Where is the government?

Shaked:

We are working to protect it. We must remember we are not giving a prize to an illegal community but assisting a community that was founded by people who enjoyed the backing of the government. The government will comply with the High Court and we are simultaneously seeking a solution to avoid a confrontation.

Channel2:

What about the recent undoing of the Bayit Yehuda law compelling chareidi schools to study ‘core subjects?’

Shaked:

One must remember, the law has yet to be implemented and the modification by this government was part of the coalition agreements between Likud and the chareidim. Education Minister Naftali Bennett continues working quietly to have secular subjects included in education plans. We are not ‘giving in’ to the chareidim but rather respecting a coalition agreement.

Channel2:

Do you think it is proper for PM Netanyahu to continue serving as Minister of Communications?

Shaked:

First we must realize it is absolutely permitted under the law. Second, others including Menachem Begin and Yitzchak Rabin have done it in the past too.
