FBI: 3 Arrested For Breaking Into Banks In Boro Park And Queens, Cutting Through Roof, Stealing $5 Million In Cash, Valuables

fbiAuthorities say New York City bank burglars stole about $5 million in cash, diamonds, jewelry, coins and baseball cards.

The FBI says three men charged Tuesday were part of a crew it’s been investigating with the New York Police Department. A criminal complaint focuses on two burglaries this year in Brooklyn and Queens.

On a bank roof in Queens, the burglars left behind empty safe deposit boxes, grinding wheels and a fuel tank for a cutting torch. Near a hole in the roof was a black plywood structure that the burglars apparently built to shield themselves from view.

The complaint also alleges the men were responsible for the April 2016 burglary of a HSBC bank on 13th Avenue and 44th Street in Borough Park, where the suspects stole around $330,000 in cash and other valuables. Alarm wires had also been cut.

In Boro Park, the burglars cut interior vault alarm wires along with phone wires a block away.

Surveillance footage, cell tower data and a confidential source were used to help build the case.

According to the complaint, the suspects are allegedly responsible for the burglary of Maspeth Federal Savings bank on Woodhaven Boulevard in Rego Park on May 24. Investigators say the suspects cut a hole in the roof and ransacked through several deposit boxes before fleeing the scene.
