Rarely does a day pass without ‘Pokemon Go’ being in the news, albeit often associated with an accident, mishap or some unfortunate situation resulting from the international addiction to the online app.
Israel is no exception and Pokemon has gone viral here too in many communities, including the military.
It appears the fear of the IDF surrounds the chance of downloading a “look alike” app, that would reveal sensitive data. This led to the IDF Security Division banning the game from all personnel in all military facilities as locations of bases along with photos and other sensitive information could easily be leaked by the app and those playing it.
The Security Unit reports there are already knockoffs which truly mimic the original but leak data. It is added to permit downloading, one agrees to permit the app to have camera and GPS access, both worrisome for the military.
