The Jerusalem toeiva parade is set for Thursday, 15 Tammuz R”L. Ahead of the annual event, police reported detaining a number of people for questioning who they view as a possible threat after last year’s parade when Yishai Schlisel attacked parade participants, murdering one person and leaving others injured. According to police, they have intelligence information the people detained plan to create a disturbance at the parade.
The people in question are members of the Schlisel family, detaining the convicted murderer’s wife and five children. Most of them were compelled to sign agreeing to remain outside of the capital until after the parade.
Police ask to extend the remand of Yishai’s brother for five days, but the court ordered him released on Thursday afternoon at 1:00PM.
Honenu attorney Itamar Ben-Givir, who represents the wife and her children stated “The police admitted regarding most of them, there was no basis for detaining them. It is abuse of family members just because they are members of the family of Yishai Schlisel. The raid on the family home this morning will not remove the shame and embarrassment of police last year and an injustice is not corrected by perpetrating another injustice – in this case, by falsely detaining and questioning innocent people because of the actions of another family member”.
