Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is suggesting replicating Amona on land adjacent to the community’s current location explaining that legislating a work-around to the High Court ruling to remove Amona will not stand the test of the next High Court appeal.
On Sunday, 11 Tammuz, Mandelblit announced that legislation heading to the Ministerial Law Committee to save Amona by circumventing the High Court order to destroy the community, will not stand the test of the next appeal to challenge that Knesset decision. As a result of Mandelblit’s opinion, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu removed the Amona matter from the weekly cabinet meeting agenda.
While Mandelblit suggests replicating Amona on adjacent land, to date, residents have announced this time there is no willingness to compromise and they will not agree to move their community to a new venue, an offer that was on the table during the tenure of Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.
