Some view it as the closing of a circle as the father was the physician of many Gedolei Yisrael and now, the son is the head of a unit at Bnei Brak’s Mayanei HaYeshua Hospital. Professor Ilan Bank was appointed as the chief of internal medicine at the hospital.

Prof. Bank was head of the same unit at Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, and has now moved to Mayanei HaYeshua. His expertise includes internal medicine and rheumatology and he is taking over for Prof. Avraham Weinberg, who is heading to retirement.

Prof. Ilan Bank is a son of Prof Tzvi Bank z”l, who was well-known as being the physician of many Gedolim including Rosh Yeshivas Ponevezh Rav Kahaneman ZT”L, the Imrei Chaim of Vishnitz ZT”L, the Steipler ZT”L, and Rav Shach ZT”L.

Prof. Ilan told the media “This is the closing of a circle for me, to come here and head this department in Mayanei HaYeshua in Bnei Brak. When I was a child I was privileged to come with my father z”l and met with many Gedolei Yisrael who sought his medical expertise. Now I return to Bnei Brak wearing the head of the unit hat”.

Prof. Bank added that he is genuinely impressed with the level of mesirus nefesh by the staff of the unique hospital, including all levels of patient care. He added that founder and President Dr. Moshe Rothschild personally takes part in rounds and patient care, something not seen elsewhere. “At Mayanei HaYeshua the patient is the center of the picture and this is never taken for granted” he added.
