Sikrikim Target The Mizrachi Bank Branch In Geula, Yerushalayim

1The battle over the Golovnititz complex in Beit Shemesh is back in the news. Opponents to the project, sikrikim, on Monday 5 Tammuz arrived at a Bank Mizrachi-Tefahot branch on Malchei Yisrael Street in Geula and smashed windows and threw tar in protest over bank financing for the project.

The attacks and protests have been ongoing for years, spearheaded by Asra Kadisha and leading to machlokes among leaders of the Eida Chareidis.

Gavaad Eida Chareidis HaGaon HaRav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss Shlita has been siding with Asra Kadisha but Eida Chareidis Ravaad HaGaon HaRav Moshe Sternbuch Shlita has given a psak halacha there the construction has not compromised kevarim despite Asra Kadisha claims to the contrary.

Now, as the project moves ahead, Mizrachi has joined in, offering mortgages to buyers. While this was not being advertised to avoid confrontation, it appears the word is out.

The sikrikim responsible for the damage to the bank on Monday fled the scene. Police are investigating.

  1. The way this article is phrased – “Opponents to the project, sikrikim”- it sounds as if all the opponents to the project are “sikrikim”. I know of some very reserved and meyushivdik people who are opposed based on what they have seen with their own eyes. And after all, the gaavad also is opposed. Of course those who caused damage to the bank could be classified as sikrikim, but the article should read “Some sikrikim, among the opponents to the project …”.

  2. You need to be careful how you word the article. One could deduce from the format that HaRav Yitzchok Tuvia Weiss Shlita supports hooliganism and the evil actions of the sikrikim. If indeed the Gaavad has spoken out about these thugs (which I assume he has at some point) that should be clarified.
