TRAGEDY IN ARAD: Once Again A Fatal Outcome R’L As Infant Left In A Parked Car

8 (1)The warnings go unheeded and once again, R”L on Tuesday, 7 Tammuz during an unseasonably hot afternoon in Israel, a six-month-old girl was left in a locked vehicle in the Arad Industrial area. The temperature in Arad at 3:00PM reached 33C (91F) outside the vehicle!

Magen David Adom in the Negev region received the call at 1:54PM. MDA EMT-3 Yisrael Katz worked with paramedic Boris Mento, explaining “When we arrived on the scene we saw the unconscious baby in cardiac arrest after being extricated from the vehicle where he was for a prolonged period of time.

“We began resuscitation efforts and advanced life support. It was very hot and the child clearly suffered from profound heat stroke…”

Their efforts were unsuccessful and the child was pronounced dead.

What is reported at present is the child’s grandmother drove her daughter to work and was then expected to take the infant to daycare, but forgot she was in the car. She returned later only to find the dead child in the car on Palmach Street in Arad, in the industrial area. Police are investigating.

The girl was a child of a family of the Arad Torani garin, young dati leumi torani couples who move to cities to bring and spread Yiddishkheit.

  1. Every car needs to install a bungee cord hooked up from the car seat to the driver’s door handle with an alarm that can only be shut down once the child is out of the car seat.

  2. bde! nebach on this family and grandmother!
come on israel, you are the silicon valley of the middle east! im sure someone can invent something that would help avoid these tragedies! an alarm..something!
there are already technologies in cars that can ‘sense weight’, why not build such a device into a car seat? that a sensor is activated when the child is put into the car seat and will not deactivate until child is removed. maybe can be connected to bluetooth of the car to know when car is shut off? im just throwing ideas around, but please anyone with the the proper knowledge and technology lets fix this!
i know that there is a sensor on my front passenger seat that ‘knows’ if there is weight put on the seat, and then when i start driving, the seatbelt light flashes and sounds to show that the passenger belt isnt fastened. this sensor goes off even if i put heavy groceries on the front passenger seat! why not build the same technology into car seats and rear passenger seats where children usually sit?

  3. Technology isn’t necessarily the answer. Do something simple like put your briefcase, lunch, book, newspaper, sefer, sticky note on dashboard, pocketbook, etc.

And before you say anything I am the father of more than 5 children (all of them are no longer infants) and these were some of the things I did when they were infants.

  4. It’s just too tragic!
    Perhaps a slogan like this:

    “You must feel the heat
    So check the back seat!!!”

Could be printed in bold letters and stuck on every dashboard.

  5. No one that is busy playing candy crush or checking Facebook or Instagram cares about your sign on the dash board or the baby in the back sit for that matter. Sad. Baruch Dayan HaEmet.
