The discovery of two leaking 55-gallon barrels in the foundation of a previously burned down residence in the Town of Monroe resulted in a hazmat incident Tuesday night.
The contents of the barrels at 94 Seven Springs Road were later determined to be sodium bromide/nitric acid, according to fire officials.
The Orange County Hazardous Materials Response Team was called in along with the West Point Fire Department’s decontamination trailer. The Kiryas Joel Fire Police closed off Seven Springs Road and ambulances responded to the scene.
