The Baltimore Police are dealing with a hostage situation in the heart of the Baltimore Jewish community, Wednesday morning.
Dozens of police cars closed down Reistestown Road and Seven Mile Lane.
SWAT Officers with guns drawn were swarming the area.
A police officals tells YWN that there is an individual barricaded in his house in the 6900 block of Reisterstown Road. The house is secure, and police tell us that there is no exterior threat at this time.
The 6800 & 6900 blocks of Reisterstown Road are closed off.

Poor reporting. Typical hype. “Heart of the Jewish Community???” Try using Google maps – this event was on the far outskirts of the Jewish Community. Baltimore is a wonderful, safe, inexpensive place to live and poorly written and untrue misstatements of fact amount to motzoi shem ra on the “next Lakewood.”
BaltimoreMaven, it seems like you and I interact about once a month about the city of Baltimore. I did as you said and looked up the on Google Maps. First thing that came up was from an ABC2 about streets being closed, including some stores and a 7 mile kosher market. How is it untrue if both Jewish (YWN) and secular news outlets are reporting? Next, YWN isn’t reporting motzi shem ra when it’s reporting the news. What if G-D forbid a frum teenager drives into that mayhem, if he isn’t warned about the sudden danger this afternoon? Lastly, (kindly) it’s a poor advertisement for Baltimore to report how wonderful it is under monthly news stories about trouble/danger/mishap. The Jewish community of Baltimore has been around for a long time with wonderful frum families. But, let’s be real- if they will be the next Lakewood, would’t it have happened already? Are there MORE or FEWER shuls, yeshivas, restaurants opening?
As of 3:58 pm, the area is still on lockdown. Stay away from Reisterstown Rd, between 7 Mile Lane and Brookhill.
Yes, it is on the far edge of the frum community, not in the heart of it.
The location is very much in the heart of the Jewish community, and within a block or two of the only supermarket, the major bookstore, several kosher restaurants and probably the largest concentration of frum-owned retailers in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area.
However the case apparently involved someone being served a warrant by the Sheriff who decided to lock himself in his house.
Who wants to be the next LAKEWOOD?
TGIShabbos, why don’t you come to Baltimore for a Shabbos and say “TGI” here? Baltimore is no more dangerous than any other city. New shuls, Yeshivas, Kollelim, stores and services are opening all of the time. Housing is cheaper than anywhere other than Rochester (which we addressed) and it has as many services and more jobs than many other places. The only thing people need to get over is the 2 1/2 hour drive. Motzi Diba Hu Ksil. My only criticism of this article, b’etzem, is that it was in “the heart” of the Jewish community. it isn’t. its on the fringe.
The event was within 100 feet of about 20 Frum families and about 300 feet from seven mile market
@baltimore maven….it may not be the heart but its definitely not the fringe….its two blocks from 7 mile market a few blocks from the oldest kosher food establishments in baltimore….across the street from the main kosher dunkin donuts and main seforim stores….definitley not the fringe…i would say a good 30% of frum jews pass that intersection at one point during the day
300 feet from 7 mile? are you nuts? this event was a black on black at the corner of Falstaff and Reisterstown Road. from there (7000 Reisterstown Road) to 7 mile market (201 Reisterstown Rd, Pikesville, MD 21208) is 1/3 of a mile. I’m not saying its a great place to have a hostage situation but seeing as the Eruv of Baltimore is right near there – on the fringe of the frum community and 99% of the frum families live to the East of this location, it is NOT the “heart”. sorry.
