A bill sponsored by MKs Moshe Gafne and Uri Maklev was passed in its second and third readings, amending a current law to ensure an intended recipient of a registered letter must know the details of the sender.
The Knesset Economics Committee passed the bill compelling the Israel Postal Authority to include the sender’s details on registered letters as well as on the slips left in one’s mailbox informing one of a registered letter in the post office. The same holds true on notices left in mailboxes for oversized packages.
Under the current system, in most cases, the slip left by a postman informing one of a registered letter in the post office does not include the sender’s details. The MKs explain that compelling the post office to provide the details permits one to decide if one wishes to claim the letter or oversized parcel or not.
