Boro Park: Community Board 12 Hosts License Check Drive In Anticipation of Summer Driving Season

cjaEvery summer, during peak driving season, when people are travelling upstate or to resorts and vacation spots, we hear of instances where people were arrested for driving while having a suspended license. Most of the times that this occurs, the situation is a misunderstanding or a completely innocent mistake that could’ve easily been avoided. For instance, it happens when someone forgets to answer a traffic ticket or they thought that it’s being handled by a lawyer and it somehow got lost in the shuffle without them ever being aware of it.

To help prevent this from happening, Community Board 12 has teamed up with the 66th Precinct to provide license checks to anybody that wants. It’s simple. Just come in to the Community Board office at 5910 13th Avenue on Monday between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, hand your license to an officer, they check it and let you know if it’s in good standing or you need to correct something. This way you can avoid all the embarrassment and heartache that come along with being arrested on the street, let alone, all the travel plans that are now potentially ruined.

An additional service that the Precinct will be providing is giving tips on keeping your property safe while being away during the summer vacation months. We hear every year from people that come home after a weekend away only to find their homes broken into and robbed of their valuable possessions. For that purpose, the Precinct’s Crime Prevention Team will be on-hand to give ideas and provide proven suggestions on how to secure your house and belongings.

“This is a great example of the Police Department and the community working hand in hand for the benefit of the public. I applaud Captain Kenneth Quick, Commanding Officer of the 66th Precinct, for readily agreeing to our request and enthusiastically providing the resources needed to make this a success,” said Yidel Perlstein, Chairman of Community Board 12.

“The 66th Precinct is always looking for new ways to better protect and serve our community. It is our pleasure to work with Community Board 12 to help avoid unnecessary arrests and prevent crime victimizations,” said Captain Kenneth Quick, Commanding Officer of the 66th Precinct.

“This is a very important service by the Community Board and NYPD. It is certainly worth taking the time to check your license status and resolve any outstanding issues before driving upstate for the summer,” said Councilman David G. Greenfield.
