Ashdod: Emergency Clinic Places A Cast On The Wrong Leg Of The Child

1A two-year-old boy was brought to a Terem emergency clinic in Ashdod about a month ago was a fractured leg. He was treated without a prolonged wait, and after x-rays, he leg was placed in a cast.

Two days following that visit the child began screaming in pain, compelling mom and dad to return to the emergency clinic. After checking the cast and the child, it was determined the staff two days earlier placed the incorrect leg in a cast. Hence, the child endured pain for two additional days.

According to the Channel 2 News report, the parents thought the pain was the result of the fracture and cast. However, during the course of the two days they saw his condition was deteriorating and he was febrile.

The staff present for the second visit realized the error and removed the cast from the left leg and placed a cast on the right, the one with the fracture. The parents are now seeking NIS 100,00 for lost days of work, mental anguish, and possible medical issues that may arise in the future as a result of the error.

The expert medical opinions contained in the parent’s suit states the staff failed to properly evaluate the child after the cast was applied and the medical care was negligent. They also feel they are entitled to the money for Terem causing a young child so much pain for an additional two days.

Terem explains a senior orthopedic physician tended to the child. They admit the wrong limb was casted first and the error was detected and immediately corrected and the appropriate lessons have been learned. Terem adds at this stage, no damage was caused to the child and it is odd if there is any suit in the matter. Terem treats hundreds of thousands of patients professionally and with dedication. Officials add at the time of the report, Terem has not received any request for compensation.

  1. While I admit that Terem was obviously in the wrong, I have to question what were these parents thinking? Did they not notice which leg had x-rays taken and then on which leg the cast was applied incorrectly? People are constantly being told that they have to advocate for themselves when receiving medical treatment. Everybody must pay close attention to what is going on to prevent such situations from even coming close to happening. While I hope they get something from any lawsuit that they choose to pursue, I hope that parents and patients will pay attention to these details in the future.

  2. These parents should be arrested for not paying attention to what the medical staff were doing. Useless.
