The Cellcom cellular telephone provider has been fined NIS 1.51 million after it was determined it was overcharging subscribers. In fact, subscribers with an ‘unlimited’ package were charge for additional services which were covered in their package.
Subscribers began complaining about a year and a half ago about unjustified charges on their monthly bill. This was particular noticeable among the clients with kosher phones and packages.
Complaints began reaching the desk of MK Uri Maklev, who probed the matter and determined clients were being charged unjustifiably. In addition, Cellcom was extremely aggressive in collecting past due sums.
Maklev learned that a subscriber would regularly receive a message that s/he was about to exceed one’s monthly package limit, but these messages were no sent to subscribers with kosher phones.
It was learned that while subscription packages were sold as “unlimited”, this was not so and clients were charged when they passed the companies predesignated usage limit.
Ultimately, after gathering the evidence, the Ministry of Communications levied the sizable fine against Cellcom.

‘Unlimited’ they claim means Average, at the end of the month, they’ll average out the minutes of all their customers, and if you’re above that average, you’re charged extra. Sounds like a lot of sense!
