Rav Hadana Ousted from His Post Over Rav Yosef’s Objections

yyoFollowing the reported forced retirement of the Chief Rabbi of Israel’s Ethiopian community, Rabbi Shlomo Hadana, Rishon L’Tzion Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef Shlita announced the move is being done in total contradiction to his view, as he requests permitting Rabbi Hadana to continue in office.

Rav Yosef has sent a letter to officials in the Ministry of Religious Services explaining Rabbi Hadana has been serving for many years and his success with the community is known to all as there is a flourishing and thriving spiritual revival. Rav Yosef explains how Rabbi Hadana is busy disseminating Torah among the community in addition to the pleasantness of his ways. He cites the community views him as its leader in matters of halacha, hashkafa and minhag.

Rabbi Yosef adds Rabbi Hadana has done remarkable work regarding verifying the Jewishness of members of the community, as well as all other areas.

After praising him, Rabbi Yosef asks to permit Rabbi Hadana to remain in his position as Chief Rabbi of Ethiopian Jewry to permit him impacting the community as he does.

  1. Actually, BOTH Chief Rabbis oppose the ousting of harav Hadana. But Deri wants to hand the position over to someone loyal to him, so out goes the beloved rabbi.

  2. Could YWN be a little more careful with the headlines. Writing “Rav Hadana Ousted from His Post Over Rav Yosef’s Objections” sounds as though Rav Yosef objected to Rav Hadana, and that the latter was ousted “over” these objections.

Perhaps “Rav Hadana Ousted from His Post DESPITE Rav Yosef’s Objections” would be clearer
