Minister for Social Equality Gila Gamliel has initiated a bill that would permit the elderly, 80 and over, to go to the head of a line in a public office. This she explains would permit the elderly to receive services in public offices without waiting on line.
Gamliel explains that today, only a few places give priority service to the elderly, permitting them to bypass a waiting line. The new law however would make this mandatory in public venues.
“There isn’t an Israeli who has not had firsthand experience, seeing this shameful phenomenon as an elderly person struggles to stand on a long slow-moving line. The new bill would exempt them from the line in places providing service to the general public”.
