It was only a few short days ago when the Shas party was demanding the cancelation of the appointment of Rami Sadan as the new chairman of the board of Channel 10 News division in response to alleged racist comments made by Sadan against Sephardim and others.
In the agreement made, Sadan will not assume the post until such time the High Court of Justice reviews the case and renders a ruling. Shas has agreed to cancel its demands to prevent Sadan from assuming the senior post pending the High Court’s decision. Shas threatened that if the appointment is not canceled it would no longer support the coalition in Knesset votes.
However, on Wednesday, 9 Sivan, coalition chairman MK (Likud) David Bitan intervened and reached the agreement for Shas to back down. Shas is now willing to hear the court’s ruling and then reach agreement with coalition leader, Likud.
Since the matter erupted, there have been contradictory statements from notables, with both sides insisting that are correct. Some back Sadan in his denial, insisting he never uttered the racist slurs at the closed meeting as alleged. However, other insist they heard his words first hand and now, it will be up to the High Court of Justice to decide if Sadan is worthy to accept the senior appointment.
