Report: Confirmed Complaints Against NYPD Officers Up

nypdrgA new report says investigators are substantiating more of the complaints made against New York Police Department officers.

The independent city agency that probes allegations of police misconduct released its annual report Monday.

The report found the total number of complaints filed against officers dropped between 2014 and 2015. But the number of officers with confirmed complaints jumped by 69 percent in that time to 790 confirmed allegations in 2015.

The New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board also found an increasing number of officers gave false official statements, continuing a five-year trend.

The CCRB says there were 60 total confirmed false official statements by officers in 2015, a 140 percent increase over 2014.

A spokesman for the union representing rank-and-file officers didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
