Customs Authority officials on Monday 29 Iyar reported a driver for the Norwegian Ambassador to Israel was apprehended at the Allenby Bridge Crossing with stolen antique artifacts in his vehicle including 10kg of ancient statues and coins.
Customs inspectors found the stolen items. The driver insists he did not know about the items being in the vehicle, the ambassador’s official Mercedes Benz. The driver, Issa Nagan, a resident of the Beit Haninah area of the capital, is suspected of smuggling. He was arrested and released with restrictions by Jerusalem Magistrate Court Justice Karen Miller.
Customs officials report the incident occurred on Tuesday, 24 Iyar, at the crossing between Israel and Jordan. A senior unnamed female diplomatic official was in the vehicle at the time. The items in question were hidden behind vehicle panels in carton wrapping.
