With just weeks until Republicans and Democrats gather for their conventions, organizers in Philadelphia and Cleveland are working to hit fundraising targets that top $60 million apiece.
The Republican National Convention runs July 18-21 in Cleveland. Organizers this week say they have raised $56 million of their $64 million goal.
Spokeswoman Emily Lauer of the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee says the region is excited to host its first political convention in 80 years and that’s helped fuel the effort.
Democrats are set to gather July 25-28 in Philadelphia. Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell says the host committee is about $9 million short of topping $60 million. But Rendell says he’s used to late-campaign fundraising and is confident they’ll reach their goal.
