Israel: Two Infants Contract Herpes – The Mohel Is The Suspected Cause

brisTwo children were brought to Schneider Children’s Hospital in Petach Tikvah, both infected from herpes, presumably the result of Metzitzah B’peh (MBP) from a mohel during their bris milah, Ynet reports.

The two incident occurred in the past two months, with the more recent one being a week ago. The child was brought to the hospital with an infection after the bris. It was diagnosed as herpes.

Dr. Eli Belinsky, a specialist in infectious diseases and a senior pediatrician at Schneider explains that because they were diagnosed quickly and treated aggressively, both infants have been released in good condition and will continue therapy until they are six-months-old. He added the due to the location of the infections and the infection occurring in such close proximity to the bris, the mohel is suspected as the cause. Dr. Belinsky adds that Schneider Hospital backs the recommendation of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel to avoid direct MBP.

Note: YWN-ISRAEL was unable to determine if the same mohel did the bris on both children treated at the hospital.

  1. The fact of the matter is the only medical exam that was done, shows that there was no connection between the mohel to the babies , nyc gave up on this battle, because there was no conclusive evidence at all. To hear the other side and the truth check out brisnyc.com

  2. Who are those fools?
Are you suggesting that chazal, the rishoinim and the acharoinim were incompetent?
I suggest that what you are writing is in fact bordering on apikorsus, if not apikorsus mamash

Under the cloak of anonimity the true inner self of many comes out

  3. To #1 (cowbrain): No correlation between MBP and herpes has ever been demonstrated and that includes the cases in New York and Monsey that the secular Jewish press went crazy over.

I’m shocked that YW is quoting Ynet, whose attitude toward religion is somewhat to the left of The Forward and the Jewish Week, as if it were torah Moshe!
