Shas Jerusalem Councilman Michael Michaeli is a member of the city’s local planning committee which must decide if it will permit the construction of another building in the Shiloach (Silwan) area of the eastern capital. The building is slated to be near Beit Yonatan.
Speaking with Kol Chai Radio host Mordechai Lavi, Lavi played the devil’s advocate, asking Michaeli to justify construction in the predominately Arab area of the capital, and possibly placing Jews as risk and possibly stirring renewed terror attacks.
Michaeli explained that members of the planning committee simply approve technical plans and that is his role, nothing more. He actually agreed, telling Lavi there may possibly be issues with construction in the eastern capital, adding it is a matter that must be decided by the Gedolei Hador Shlita, and not politicians.

Sounds like this is a question that should be decided by the senior security experts and military leadership, not by “gadolei hador”. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t need to worry about security concerns but here we really need individuals who understand the practical and logistical realities of providing protection 24×7 to new structures erected in the midst of unsecured areas of the city.
