HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Zilberstein Shlita ruled that medical cannabis that does not come into contact with grains is kosher for Pesach, as reported by YWN-ISRAEL.
The video shows Rav Chaim as the matter is explained to him, with persons involved in the medical cannabis project showing Rav Kanievsky a quantity of marijuana.
Binyamin Gorlin, described by MyNet as a “chareidi from Jerusalem” filed a complaint against Rabbi Kanievsky with Jerusalem police for being in possession of an illegal substance. Gorlin explained to police that a special permit is required to transport the marijuana to Rabbi Kanievsky’s home and he wanted to probe if such a permit was issued. Police however have decided to close the case.
MyNet reports that Gorlin is persistent and he plans to appeal his case for he is certain a law was broken and the matter must not be dismissed. MyNet adds that it asked Gorlin what compelled him to file a police complaint, to which he is quoted responding he wishes to arouse the chareidi community regarding the control over the various (“חצרות”) communities by chareidi families. He added that he expected to hear voices of protest from talmidim of the rav regarding the bracha over cannabis, which is prohibited for use, and in the absence of any public criticism he decided to file a police complaint.
Police explain the case was closed since no law was broken.
