Members and supporters of the Yerushalmi faction of the litvish community have been taking part in protests in support of the jailed yeshiva bochur arrested recently in Eilat. He is jailed in IDF Prison 4 for failing to register for the draft.
The young man’s father spoke at some of the many protests that took place last week and told the tzibur that unfavorable rumors about his son are untrue.
He stated “First of all I thank HKBH that this is my lot, and there is no doubt that my son Moshe created a Kiddush Hashem. Moshe, my son, I love you very much and I do not sleep nights but one thing I know, no one is guilty of anything. HKBH wanted it this way. This is Hashem’s desire. You listened to the way of Gedolei Hador and today I understand it is correct you did so”.
The father continued “I am very emotional to see this. I did not believe just how important the Torah is to Am Yisrael and it is unfortunate the weaker side does not understand this. However, suffice it that they see such a holy tzibur and the number of people and without a doubt this will cause them to believe there is value to the Torah HaKadosha”.
“My son was moser nefesh for Torah and was ready for anything on behalf of the Torah. Praised be you Moshe and praised be your share. Rabbi Akiva gave his life for Torah and there is mesirus nefesh for Torah, and unfortunately there are those who do not know or understand this”.

Looks like the father drank the same cool aid his son drank
The guy who mops the floor in the beis medrash is more “moser nefesh” for Torah than this so called “yeshiva bochur” who was arrested for draft evasion while plastered and bar hopping in the Eilat during a bain hazmanim blowout. Sadly, the father seems to be as inebriated as the son based on the comments comparing him to the mesiras nefesh of Rav Akiva. That’s like comparing Madonna to Sarah or Rochel Emanu.
Yes, it is very nice that Torah is so important to so many people. However, there is no reason this man’s son, who was busy partying in Eilat, couldn’t have just gone to the Draft Center and gotten a deferment, as per the instructions of R’ Shteinman and R’ Chaim, and been free to learn or party or whatever. The answer to everything is not always just screaming “Gevalt!”
What is the truth here?
Just because this boy made a mistake and went to eilat, he does not deserve to be put in jail for this mistake. If this boy was your son, would you make negative comments or you would give him the benefit of the doubt. I am sure that you will judge your child favorably.
Gadolhadorah, on behalf of the many YWN viewers who prefer to get the news from a Clean website, can you Please stop posting the type of comments that belong on sites that we choose not to view.
appleface, sometimes the truth hurts.
If YWN’s advertisers prefer inflammatory articles that generate lots of “eyes” on the website (good for advertising), you should know that this policy is leading YWN down a path toward yellow journalism and loss of journalistic credibility. Your reporting on most things chareidi is so much worse than your reporting of Arab terrorist acts (R”L), leftist rhetoric from Herzog and Co., the Donald & Hilary Show, and indeed just about anything and everything else. By allowing hateful comments that often fan the flames even more than the original article, you are assisting those with hatred in their hearts to heap even more scorn and derision on yeshiva bochurim, Satmar chasidim, and others. You are fomenting massive disdain for frum Jews. While you don’t have to, and indeed cannot factually verify the identity of every commenter, you could at least try to steer the tone of the comments away from loshon hora, sinas chinam, and other forms of gratuitous remarks. Think about it. Some of comments if not original articles would not be out of place on some skin-head anti-Semitic website. I’m sorry to say this, but sometimes folks loose control of their minds, tongues, and keyboards posting horrible stuff here. And don’t tell me that it’s not “anti-Semitic” because “you have a good reason/or are justified” in your opposition to chareidim and in making such (“true!”) remarks. You can be sure the National-Socialists 80 years ago also were convinced they had justifiable (even “scientific”) reasons for hating Jews. I’m not saying there’s never room for criticism, but there’s a time and a place to do so. People who habitually, maybe even chronically, cannot ever find anything good to say about Hashem’s loyal servants, well, maybe they need to do some soul searching. And even if the haters want to keep up their hatred of chareidim, at least YWN ought not be abetting this stumbling block to the arrival of Moshiach Tzidkeinu be’meheira be’yomeinu. Have rachmonus on your readers, on yourselves and on the future of YWN.
#6: he was not jailed for his ‘mistake of going to Eilat’.
He was jailed for draft dodging.
Obviously no one asked the “poor boy” why he was there. Maybe he was kidnapped or his friends deceived him and told him they were going to Yarchei Kallah in Eilat. Apparently they went to the bar and saw it wasnt a Yeshiva so they left and went to the dancing Elelphant or what ever it was called to learn Torah. I really don’t think he made a mistake Avraham he was there with one purpose in mind. He got drunk on purpose his mistake was getting caught. And the other mistake was that the Peleg Yerushalmi supported this bum without really asking questions like: Who, What, Where, and how. And now they can’t admit their mistake.
To No. 7: Sorry for offending you. I will be more careful in framing metaphors if you find the reference to a pop culture figure offensive. The point here being the ultimate hypocrisy of the father in using such a frame of reference as Rav Akiva to make an analogy to his son who is claiming his torah study warrants making another bochur serve in his place in the IDF while he is off partying in Eilat. If you don’t get the point, not much I’ll be able to do by substituting another name for someone not regarded as an ehrliche yid.
