A man was shot in the leg after he pointed a gun during a traffic stop in Queens Village.
Police said an officer was bitten by the suspect during the stop at 217th Street and Hollis Avenue around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the New York City Policee Department, the suspect, who was in a gray Mercedes, had run several red lights.
When the officers approached the car, police said the man refused to put the vehicle in park. When the sergeant opened the passenger side door in an effort to talk with the man, police said he sped off with the sergeant still inside the car.
The driver was forced to stop at 217th Street by officers who followed in their unmarked car, police said.
As the sergeant struggled with the suspect, police said he got out of the car and brandished a gun. That’s when the sergeant pulled his weapon, firing at the suspect and striking him once in the right leg, police said.
At some point during the struggle, police said the suspect also bit another officer on his arm.
The suspect was arrested and taken to Queens Hospital Center in stable condition. His injuries are non-life threatening.
The officer who was bitten is being treated at North Shore LIJ and is in stable condition.
Other officers also are being treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
