Hagaon HaRav David Yosef, a member of the Shas Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael questions the system by which “corrupt politicians appoint dayanim” to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel’s batei din. The rav was speaking out against the state committee that appoints dayanim.
The rav also comments on the fact that some of the members of the committee are not religious and the absurdity that such people should have a say in the appointment of dayanim to the nation’s batei din. The rav made his remarks during a shiur in his yeshiva, Yechavei Daas.
The rav was giving a shiur on the prohibition of taking revenge and the responsibility shouldered by dayanim to rule in line with halacha without outside considerations. This led to the discussion of the committee and the system by which dayanim are appointed to the Chief Rabbinate-run batei din.
The rav decried the system and stated anyone appointed as a dayan who is unworthy will not be the messenger of true justice.
