MK (Shas) Yaakov Margi expressed harsh criticism over the infighting that surrounded the selection of new dayanim to the Chief Rabbinate of Israel’s batei din. Margi praised the appointment of Dayan Rav Eliezer Igra Shlita to the Chief Rabbinate Supreme Court, an appointment affiliated with the dati leumi community. Margi distanced himself from the mainstream chareidi response, stating Rav Igra is a worthy candidate for the post and it is as simple as that.
He called for an end of the politicizing and infighting regarding appointments of dayanim and to use the time to find, evaluate and appoint worthy candidates whomever they may be. “The yarmulke does not make the determination. Rav Igra is most suited for the post” stated Margi.
